Communities in College

In this weeks reading It Takes A Tribe by David Berreby. We read about the communities that are formed in college. I completely agreed with this essay; it brings up very valid points that I have been noticing myself, my months here at Bridgewater State. What stuck out to me in the reading is when Berreby states "Human beings will give a lot, including their lives, for a group they feel a part of." I have been noticing that people in college tend to do anything to be a part of a group even if it's not the group they belong in. People are so caught up with fitting in they forget to just be themselves and find who they are first. They ultimately give their lives away by not actually giving themselves time to find out who it is they are, what it is they truly want, and where it is they want to go. By joining a group just to fit in and not be alone they are actually taking away from themselves.

  1. I like how you looked at this reading. I think I read right over this part not even thinking in depth like you did here, or relating it to my own personal life. I also agree that people are so willing to do whatever it takes to fit into a community or group anyway they can. It is sad to say that it does happen much more often than anyone would like to think it does.
